Forums > Living in Chengdu > Any musicians in Chengdu?
Here's the best option for a rehearsal studio in Chengdu, very short walk from Lan Kwai Fong/ShangriLa Hotel as marked on the map. "SP Pro Audio". Drum Kit; Keyboards; Guitar and Bass Amps; Vocal P.A. all in a small room @ 60RMB per hour; and a private drum booth in a room next door. Plus, a decent selection of instruments and Pro Audio Gear, and Paul the owner speaks reasonable English, and can order stuff if you need it. Paul's number: 130 8442 2829

Couldn't help myself yesterday, so I went for a bit of a look. Easy to find, as DragonE mentioned, top floor (6th) of the Suning building, buried in a back corner. The best Chengdu has to offer, some decent height in the boudering walls, and some highball bouldering with ropes on the other side... ; ) 50RMB a visit, plus usual discounts for bulk visit purchases.
Pity they are not setting any decent amount of routes, and they're using a tape system for the ones they have already, like the other Survivor. Laser pointer for the friends slouching around doesn't cut it in my book, for a gym trying to make money and charging a pretty hefty fee.
I'm planning on trying to convince them to let me strip at least a single wall, and then route-set in the standard single colour manner, so the climbing will be a bit more satisfying and easier to understand. Rather than searching for scrappy pieces of tape through rainbow routes... : ]
Here's a quick photo I snapped off (note: the slouching masses):

Yep, satellite is right, but the traffic/road view kindly moves it up about 500m for me. Still makes sense with the road shape below...! : )
No problem, I'll probably make a booking and saunter along tomorrow night, weather and motivation permitting.

Chengdu > Whytewoolf
韦德伍斯健身会所Not a rating as such, but an amendment to the above (slightly wrong) phone number... The phone number is:
(028) 84519666
Apart from that, had a look at the gym a few days ago, and it looks excellent. Tons of modern looking equipment, different classes available, yoga room, and best of all - a squash court! Badminton be damned! : ] Definitely worth checking out if you're in the market for a good gym...

Chengdu > Cacaja Indian Restaurant
印度菜菜This place has undergone a distinct menu makeover, and the food has improved as well... Feels like new management/chef has stepped in.
Was 'fairly' good when I last visited about 6 months ago, and having returned there tonight I immediately noticed the new menus and dishes available.... (Decor hasn't changed, but for me it's a moot point, given some of the stinkhouse 'legendary' huo guo restaurants I've rolled into and eating mystery meat from a street side vendor, whilst sitting with my nose 2 feet from the gutter on a plastic stool...) As long as it's reasonably clean, I hit a restaurant for the taste of the food and the Tardis-like transportation to a culinary world far away from Western China.
Flavour of everything was excellent, beef vindaloo; eggplant curry (which was great); giant bowl of hot and sour soup; kachumber salad; 2 bowls of rice; 1 naan bread, and a longneck beer, For 132RMB total - stuffed 2 people silly, and still had some left for da bao (isn't Indian food always better the next day?? : )
Service was very quick, food appeared within minutes, and there was an English speaking waitress that stepped in very quickly when she could see me banging my head and trying to figure out how to say 'raita' in 中文!
Very happy with the improvements in the food, and noticed they are doing home delivery now, which I'm going to take advantage of... 90RMB for lukewarm McDeath's, or the equivalent amount of money for a couple of good curries and rice... : )
Definitely worth a visit to Binjiang Lu Cacaja if you haven't been there for a while!!
