Chengdu > Le Sud
南方法国餐厅Last night I went to Le sud, I had eaten there before a few times and really enjoyed it, I often recommended it to my collegues in Chengdu. When we arrived the waiter was very helpful and friendly and showed us to our table. When we sat down he recommended some food and translated the Chinese wine list for me.
The wine list was really expensive the cheapest being 180rmb for a bottle of wine from Chile. They were selling Spanish wine at around 300rmb for a bottle and 45rmb for a glass. I recently had a wedding in Chengdu and we bought similar tasting Spanish wine for 35rmb a bottle??. The price per glass list was not on the menu but instead was placed in a difficult to see area at the front of the counter. (to my disappointment I only noticed it after ordering three glasses of the spanish wine)
Anyway I ordered the Spinach and potato soup and my wife the goose liver. The food was ok and well presented, the restaurant at this point began to fill up. I ordered the "french style" pasta for my main course and when it arrived to my horror, the pasta was covered with carrots, sweetcorn and peas. Never ever in my life has a plate of pasta looked so colourful. The taste of the the pasta with the bacon and mushroom decent, but i had to navigate around the vegetables which i am sure were bought frozen in metro or carrefour. When I did get a mouthful of frozen vegetables it was not good.I also ordered a glass of wine.
After a while we were joined by a friend and after spending 10 minutes trying to get the waiters attention he ordered a bacon and mushroom pizza. Now the Pizzas in le sud used to be some of the best in town, not anymore the pizza when it arrived had a base that was far too thin and overcooked to the point of snaping at the touch. loaded with chese and not with bacon or mushroom.
The service staff kept changing the music videos on the big screen, starting off with Edele which was quite pleasent and easy to listen to and finishing with Lady gaga on repeat whose music videos were more like porno, Don't get me wrong a bit of Lady gaga at KTV gets the place going but at dinner???? not classy
And to top it all off when we got the bill it was 320rmb for 2 starters, a plate of pasta WITH sweetcorn and carrots, a Pizza and 3 glasses of cheap tasting Spanish wine WOW!!!! never again. The owner has put money before quality disappointing disappointing disappointing!!
