- Sichuan: home to more than 25,000 millionaires
"Additionally, 28 percent of the wealthy surveyed said they are "confident" about China's economy over the next two years." - meaning 72% are not? Very disconcerting...

Forums > Food & Drink > Best North American style pizza in Chengdu?
Mandolino is good, but the question was specifically 'North American style.' Mandolino traditional italian style.
Mike's pizza is by far the best North American style pizza. That being said, Mandolino, Le Sud (although I haven't been there in almost a year), and Abaluzza also put together a decent pie.
Why is Pizza so expensive? The ingredients! Go to Treat, Auchuan or Carrefour and try to make one yourself, 'it ain't cheap!'
@Mike - keep doing your thing...
@NYC, I miss you the day I leave - don't worry though, I'll come home for good one day!

Forums > Food & Drink > New Bakery Near Waterfront/Jiu Yan Qiao
Hey All,
I just discovered a new bakery called Bake and Roast, or Roast and Bake, or something like that. Had a danish and chocolate croissant and was impressed.
Who opened this place? Foreign or local? Do they make bread? It was in the store, but it looked like it was on display. I didn't want any at the moment and my poor Chinese did not permit me to really ask. In any case, I have to strongly recommend this place and would appreciate any information about it.

Chengdu > KaffeStugan
咖啡斯特特嘉Have not come here in a while, but JEEZZZ! HOW DID I FORGET!?! This place is AWESOME, DELICIOUS, AMAZING!
Comfortable environment with great service and even better food. One of the top western options in Chengdu.
Sandwiches, Sweedish dishes, i want to order them all (and often order three things to split with two people). It just gets better and better!
Ooooo yeah and the coffee... well if you think the foods good, you got another thing coming once you try their coffee. Could be the Best Coffee In The City.
Thank you Kaffestugan, for taking me on an hour long vacation to The West, with only a 15min cab ride.

Chengdu > The Lazy Pug
懒巴哥The Pug's Sunday brunch may be the best thing to happen to Chengdu since Ma La and La Jiao. This place has hands down the best and most authentic American food in Western China. It's the first place I've been to that not only has REAL BACON but cooks it until its CRISPY! no sushi bacon here. BTW there is a bottomless cup of coffee that comes with any brunch, just like a real diner.
Moving on, Pulled Pork, Big juicy Burgers with CANDIED BACON(see the heavens open from above as you eat this), fresh tortilla chips with a generous portion of Salsa (aaahem Peter's tex-mex and your pathetically small salsa/sour-cream containers, a real American should never stand for such a lack of excess, Shame on you Peter, SHAME)
I would go on but I've only been to the Pug 5 or 6 times, I'll write again after I sample the rest of the menu, but ill end on this, i haven't had one bad meal, and there is no other western restaurant in Chengdu where i can make that same claim.
PS
Drink specials, AWESOME. the bar alone is worth the trip.

Chengdu > Casamosaico
卡萨马克That last review by someone how said they think everything is fake is pretty ignorant. I went here a few weeks ago and met the Chef. Great Italian guy with experience in NY. I'm from NY and we eat a lot of Italian food, this resturant was great. By far the best of its kind in Chengdu. Its very expensive by Chengdu standards, but not by interntional standards. They have some deal with a tile company and the decor is spectacular, the food is great. If you have some extra coin, and want to take that special someone someplace nice, this is it.
bottom line:
expensive but very good
