Chengdu > Indian Food Corner
I've eaten here twice. The indian food definitely has a Chinese bent. I order the Chapatis set meal which is nice and fresh. the curries themselves are somewhat inauthentic and lacking. The chai is good and cheap. The service staff is kind and attentive. Overall I still don't know what to make of this place. There seems to be an Indian person in the kitchen, but in the process to bringing the food to the table something gets lost in the translation to sichuan.

Chengdu > Pizza Mandolino
披萨曼陀玲Went the other day excited to check out the new possible best pizza option in Chengdu.
The prices are high here get that straight. A salad and a pizza cost me 100 yuan. The pizza itself was nice. I ordered a plain Margarita pizza to just taste their basics. The sauce is the best in Chengdu, and tastes Italian versus American Italian. Tangy and minimalists. Cheese was very good. Crust was a bit too much on the doughy side for me, especially around the edges leaving me with huge pillows of dough that was not crunchy enough to enjoy by itself. Some people will probably really like their pizzas. I prefer La Sud's still.
I ordered a smoked salmon salad which was bad. It really isn't that hard to make this kind of salad. I can do it at home. But instead I got smoked salmon slices atop over salted oily lettuce and surrounded by shaved carrots. It was made by someone with little idea of what a salad should be.
The other menu items looked really interesting but were also really expensive...
Service was fine. Waitresses were attentive and congenial.

Chengdu > Fiesta Thai
非常泰餐厅Very passable, but not authentic Thai food. It's like they took Chinese food and added basil and lime. The dishes were way too spicy. Inedibly spicy at times. I went there only because I friend bought a groupon.

Chengdu > Grandma's Kitchen
祖母的厨房I've been to the Renmin Nan Lu branch a four or five times and everytime I've been disappointed at the food. Their portions are small first of all. Next the food tastes like it is cooked by Chinese cooks trying to western after a weekend cooking class. I went for the weekend brunch which is advertised in this magazine and utterly revolted. Terrible dried wads of sausages, reheated dense circular hash browns that were obviously frozen, garbage pancakes. They didn't even try. They should just give up and spare everyone. Something tells me there really isn't a grandma running the joint.
Avoid!

Chengdu > Tonkatsu Wako
和幸This is the place to go when you simply cannot stomach another greasy spice fest. Though their items are fried, it's not in the least bit oily. The salad is great, and the clam soup soothing. Not much variety beyond fried pork chops and shrimp, but when you do something well why add another 80 items?
This place is a real Japanese chain run by a real Japanese manager, and you can tell the difference. I like to go here on weekday afternoons and enjoy their lunch specials and just sit and peruse a Japanese magazine. I really don't know why this place ain't more popular. Perhaps if there was a way to douse their food in red recycled gutter oil the locals would like it more.

Chengdu > Le Sud
南方法国餐厅Small menu, good service, food depends on what you order - their pizza is truly great, but my girlfriend's shrimp dish tasted Sichuanese which was odd. Still the best European style restaurant in the city.

Chengdu > Falafel Laila
法拉福Good falafel patties. Veggies were fine. They did use Sichuanese Guo Kui for the bun which is a bit dicey. Price was 14 Kuai for one which I think is high for an all vegetarian item. More value please.
I asked a local man eating his falafel with intense analysis what he thought of it. He politely said it was different than local food.
Looking forward to trying their chicken sandwich. Overall I would definitely eat it again.

Chengdu > Vegetarian Lifestyle
枣子树This is my favorite restaurant in Chengdu and I'm not even a vegetarian. The food is delicious, light, and healthy. No immense slicks of recycled red oil poured questionable meat or dirty river fish here. Sichuanese and non-Sichuanese dishes are available. You can tell they take their time designing the dishes for both taste and presentation. Service is generally excellent and attentive. They pour you corn tea and then give you a small fruit plate to cleanse your palate. At the end of the meal they even give you 发票 without asking!
Of the negatives I can say the portions are a bit small, and the prices comparable to eating a meat meal but it's well worth it.

Chengdu > Bookworm
老书虫I like the bookworm. I mostly order sandwiches when I go, particularly the Paninis which on a cold Chengdu afternoon can remind you there is a god above those grey clouds. Get the mozarella, pesto, and tomato one.
The atmosphere is comfy and relaxed. My one issue with the place is the smell. Whenever I go, I leave the place smelling like a deep fryer. Otherwise good prices, food, and place.

Chengdu > Mike's Pizza Kitchen
Had the pizza two times. Once was the vegetarian which I found a bit bland. Second with more meaty options and was quite nice. I think there could be more cheese, but because we are in China I can understand that cheese is pricey for the price point. A healthy quality pizza. Mike is a nice guy and delivery is fast and service great.
Being a foodie eater, I can't say it's the best I've eaten here. I do prefer Salud's airy cheesy discs. But Mike's is very good and I'm looking forward to trying his stuffed as well as other options. He is my first delivery option.

Chengdu > The Lazy Pug
懒巴哥I went there for dinner and had the crispy chicken sandwich, which was a bit pricey at 58RMB, but delicious and worth it. Fresh cut fries, quality chicken breast, coleslaw. Yum. They had nice free refills of ice tea which almost made me leap for joy like I was back in America. The ambiance is very American and I chatted briefly with the owner who says they are from the Midwest. Also had Sangria for 15RMB a glass which I found very reasonable.
All around good properly run joint with great service. Except for the slightly higher price point on some foods, I think people here are just splitting hairs. They have daily specials that are reasonable. If you're looking for non Chinese food you can't expect Chinese prices.
