    • Chengdu > Bookworm
      老书虫

I give the Bookworm a 3 ONLY for the nice coffee shop environment and free WiFi.

It is a nice place to hang out and have a coffee or drink while you are reading or on the laptop.
The food here leaves everything to be desired.

I have eaten many different dishes and I am always disappointed even with the simple dishes like a hamburger and french fries.

I don't know how they make that taste like it does, but I don't recommend eating here.

    • Chengdu > Peter's Tex Mex

I've never eaten Tex Mex in the states, but I have eaten Mexican cuisine before and this isn't anything like Mexican food that I've had.

Very little spice to the food and very little to be desired in what taste does exist.

If you are absolutely desperate for Mexican food, you can break down and eat here, but you will still be disappointed.

    • Chengdu > Paulaner Brauhaus
      普拉那啤酒坊

Gemuetlichkeit. That is what its all about! Come out and enjoy our Stammtisch International Corner at the Paulaner Braeuhaus every last Friday of the month. Its for expats and locals alike. Enjoy a traditional 1 litre beer "Maß", a juicy and crispy Pork Knuckle and much more. Its a great way to meet new friends, make business contacts or even satisfy an appetite. Learn about other cultures and try your hand at picking up some English, German and Chinese.

Every last Friday of the month at 20h00 in Paulaner Braeuhaus. Prost!

    • Chengdu > Underground
      通道酒吧

Although I have lived in Chengdu for almost a year, I had never heard of this bar. My girlfriend found out about it on a Chinese website. I thought I would give it a whirl and went there the first night of the world cup. I just don’t understand why this bar is not more well-known. It is a great place. When I went it was pretty busy and I got a seat upstairs with a great view of both the LCD TV and the big screen. Actually I only intended going in for the first game, but ended up staying till 5am. It is a genuinely mixed bar and I agree with one of the other reviewers (there is no sleaze and a real warmth).

The atmosphere was very friendly and I could not have asked for more for the football in terms of comfort and good, inexpensive (and very cold) beer. Later that night I spoke to one of the owners, Gary. He is a sound bloke. I asked him why his bar is not more well-known in the city. He told me it has only been open 6 months and they are still getting to grips with the marketing but the bar is building-up very well. I hope so as this, for me, is a treasure in Chengdu and I for one will be making it my regular haunt from now on.

    • Chengdu > Bingo Bagel
      冰果贝果轻食馆成都外滩店

It's on the backside of the building complex called Lin Jiang Fen Ge (粼江峰阁),off of Shun Jiang Lu (顺江路) Coffee is about 23 kuai (I think 15 for espresso?) but strong and good (Just had a Vietnamese coffee here today... I was flying on the way home).

Bagels are 3-4 kuai with 2 kuai cream cheese and their milk tea is REAL taiwanese milk tea (not the powdered crappy stuff).

No smoking inside and they have a really good espresso machine, and also some bing sha iced drinks, some little cookies and stuff.

Nice owner - Taiwanese guy but lived in L.A. for a long time.

    • Chengdu > Cacaja Indian Restaurant
      印度菜菜

I would agree with the "caca" part, but don't know what the "ja" stands for, maybe some old Sanskrit for house making it the "House of Caca". Food is so so, the set menus for 2/3/4 persons aren't good value really, as the portions are tiny. Best dish palak paneer, the rest is not worth virtual space to mention. Drinks are cheap & terrace is ok if you like watching cars parking and passing by.

    • Chengdu > Jambo Africa House
      非洲房子

An "African" bar run by a lesbian, horrible idea and even worse execution. 10 squaremeters of non-sense, have fun.

    • Chengdu > Little Bar (New)
      小酒馆 (芳沁店)

They managed to survive for 15 years without improving their sound system, it still sucks and it's a shame to have interesting bands arriving from all over the world to play at 8 p.m. on a shitty sound system. I HATE their chairs. It says a lot about Chengdu that Little Bar is still best place for live music thanks to their consistent bookings and reputation and no other place even gets close to it.

    • Chengdu > Hemp House
      麻糖

this place could be really great, if they were more consistant, less sloppy, and they have to fix their sound system really and arrangement (which won't happen, because everytime they do change they do it wrong). Strong mix drinks.

    • Chengdu > Mooney's Bar
      香格里拉大酒店爱尔兰吧

Their cover band is pretty good, but I don't like their selection of songs. Somehow I can't get to like Mooney's, it's quite expensive both drinks & food, and the later one is just oily, fat fast food. Their pool table is decent & terrace looks comfy.

    • Chengdu > Le Sud
      南方法国餐厅

Downside first: uncomfy seating, no own toilet, instead you have to go the mall toilets, the corner is the hardest to get a taxi from during the day, no cheese burger:)
Plus: creative cooking, great value, monthly changing menu, great boss, one of the very few restaurants I can recommend, even though I don't like all the dishes it's an interesting change from the Western restaurant routine. Worth going every month, try the lamb if you like meat, dessert: creme brulee, pizza: calzone.

Plastic food, over-priced, pretentious, boring, laughable interior is what comes to my mind.

    • Chengdu > Sabrina's Country Store

I used to go there, when I was too lazy to make it to one of the foreign supermarkets, but since I don't live around the store anymore there is no need really. I can get better and cheaper cheese at Auchuan and almost anything else too.

    • Chengdu > Peter's Tex-Mex
      彼德西餐

I haven't been there in ages and as prices went up I don't see a reason too. I used to digg the TexMex Burger & Apple pie and their terrace, but in half a decade the only modification on their menu was adjusting the prices to their liking.

    • Chengdu > Shamrock Bar
      三叶草爱尔兰西餐酒吧

Best thing about this place: outside seating, 5 kuai afternoon coffee, some RMB 25 lunch deals, the RMB25 Greek salad.

Don't think the board games are a good thing. Also Machu opens later and later, no more lazy afternoons, rather early evenings.

    • Chengdu > Machu Picchu
      马丘比丘咖啡馆

A good place to spend a lazy afternoon people-watching from the shaded interior, also a good place to see a band up close and personal (it's not exactly a big bar). They have a few board games and occasionally even bread for sale.

    • Chengdu > Shamrock Bar
      三叶草爱尔兰西餐酒吧

Their 'ham' pizza was topped with what looked like spam. I tasted it and found that it was indeed a luncheon meat pizza. Truly disgusting. Perhaps rename the place 'Spamrock'?
