I' d really love to take part in some local activities, any ideas as to where & when in Chengdu would be so much appreciated!!! Will there be boat races on a river? I could join an organized tour if any.

There is the Torch Festival or Fire Festival of Yi People in Xichang from 10th of August. It's a big Carnival! Just google it! I will go there this year probably, so if you want you can join us!
