Just a couple questions from a future Chengdu expat. What is the best way to go about applying to language programs from the US? The process seems pretty straight forward for Sichuan University but I am having more problems figuring it out for SWU of Nationalities. They don't have any English site I can access so I'm not sure. I don't want to pay the fees charged by admission agencies like CUCAS but I'm not sure if I have any other option here.
So basically I'm just wondering what is the best way for an American to apply to university in Chengdu. Any insight will be much appreciated!

Hi-
Was just down at SW University for Nationalities the other day asking about classes. They told me I can just show up and "apply" for the language program in August (when I come back to Chengdu). I don't think there is really any deadline as long as you can pay for the tuition.
Here is the email contact their brochure gives: laurielang803@yahoo.com.cn
Hope that helps.

Thanks very much, that does help. Doesn't seem like a good school to go through if I'm in search of a student visa though .. I'll try sending an email to that contact.
Thanks again!

I had a few friends start at SW University for Nationalities this Feburary - the university sorted them out with students visas no problem. I guess I would double check with them, but if you arrive here on a tourist visa they have the connections to turn it into a student one.

most likely that they will ask you to come with a tourist visa. they will change this in china to a student visa. ive been asked to do that by Sichuan University and ive heard many students that have done it that way.

Oh ok, so arriving on a student visa is not necessarily essential for language students .. good to know.
Thanks for the insights.
