Buying limes in Chendgu

    I've been in Chengdu just over a month now, and are generally finding my way around the supermarkets and fruit/vege roadside sellers.

    I'm very keen to buy some limes, but can't seem to locate them. I've found what I think are called "green lemons" but a google search seems to suggest that they are not the same as a lime.

    My research shows the mandarin name(s) for what I'm after is 青檸 [qīng níng], or 萊檬 [lái méng], or 萊姆 [lái mǔ]

    Are these available in Chengdu somewhere?

  • They sell limes at Carrefour. I've also seen them at little fruit stands, but they weren't displayed and I had a Chinese friend ask for them.

  • Thanks justinf - I've been at Carrefore but must have missed them. I'm pretty new here in Chengdu, and must admit that I don't recognize half of what's on sale at Carrefore!

  • Kiwi, I've found them! They're one block behind the south Carrefour complex, going west. They're in a rather large fruit market on the opposite side of the roundabout. I think EF, the English school, is just above them; Sabrina's is to the south. At last glance they were 5 kuai/jin. And juicy! Happy salsa/margarita making!

  • You can also buy lime juice from Auchan and Metro.

  • I just saw in Ole yesterday, a new supermarket in the east, that they sell fresh limes. 15RMB for 3.
