  • Hey All,

    I'm just wondering if anyone knows of people who play Ultimate Frisbee in Chengdu. I know that there are tournaments in Shanghai, Beijing, and Kunming, among other cities, but does anyone play disc in Chengdu? Just wondering.

  • I'm up for something. I'm currently about the worst at frisbee, but I do have a good quality one, friends who would possibly get involved and I will be here for the summer. Weather's getting nicer. Would you like to try and get something together? There's a lot of fields around Sichuan University :)

  • Yeah, let's get something going! How about meeting at 5pm on Saturdays at the field near the East gate of Sichuan University? If we don't have that many people we could just toss until we recruit more people to get a game going.

  • I will be spending most of the next year in Chengdu and I would love to get out and toss the frisbee around some time. I will try to first come out on Saturday, April 30th if this is still going.

  • Hey, there's a group that plays Ultimate Frisbee every week on Saturday around 2:00 either at Chengdu Sport University (成都体育学院) or at the Southwest University for Nationalities (西南民族大学). We've been playing at Southwest University for Nationalities lately since the fields at sport university are being worked on. If you're interested, send me an email (zachkoch at gmail dot com) and I'll give you more information. There's usually around 20-30 people that show up.

  • Hey y'all, moving to Chengdu in about 2 weeks! I'm really hoping you guys are still holding those weekly games @zkoch. I'd be appreciative if you could confirm that for me. If there's a new weekly game going on, I'd love to hear about that too. Hoping to start disc-ing as soon as I get to the city!

  • To be honest, I'd be happy for a mere toss-around if we don't have enough to hold a game of ultimate. Either way, I'll be a happy man. I'll post here before I plan on heading to the fields!

    "We are organising an URBAN FRISBEE GOLF (or Frolf) tournament on the 27th of August and we invite you to join us! If you like frisbee with your friends outside in the not-so-fresh-air with beer and BBQ you should drop us a line.

    For those of you not familiar with the guerilla golf and frisbee mash-up phenomenon, it means mapping out and playing a golf course, complete with tee-ing off points and "holes", mostly a target to hit or land your frisbee. Teams of two players take it in turns to toss the frisbee towards the goal and the team with the lowest number of throws wins. Like golf but way more fun.

    Our urban environment is the leafy Sichuan University campus - while its not the back alleys of Chicago it does offer some challenging terrain! We have 9 holes, with pars ranging from 6 to 14, and club houses (drinking holes) along the way to refresh players.

    Each team that joins should also prepare a short skit - dancing, jokes, acting, drama, singing, whatever - to perform at our third club house, which will not only earn you the affection of the judges but also win you awards and the respect of all your coolest friends. Costumes are actively encouraged.

    We leave from 1.30pm at The Underground, but you're welcome to come a bit early and get some food and drink before we go to tee off.

    Three holes later and we'll have a pit stop then play three more holes before hitting up 8 and a 1/2 for skits and drinks. Finish the last three and we move on to Leg and Whistle for a slap up BBQ and awards ceremony.
