Just missed the Chinese Chess League
that started this week in Chengdu. The chess news didn't even bother to mention the city name, apart from this one:

there is a forum on international chess in Chengdu
http://chengduchess.5d6d.com/
Would be nice to have a spot in town to meet once a week and play with a clock.
Anyone?

So the Bookworm has an International Chess Tournament with prices for 1st and 2nd place starts 3 p.m. May 24th. Unfortunately there is the 2nd hand market the same day.

Are there any chess clubs kicking around these days? I'd be interested in a regular game.

Unless you are really good you don't want to enter the Chinese club, because the little kids will just trash you. (The little tournament above was one by a Chinese and his nephew btw).
I wouldn't mind some blitz games. I have boards and I was planing to buy a clock(s) anyways. The biggest problem is to find a QUIET place in this city, but I could arrange for a half open centrally located place if more nerds want to join.

I think I shall stay clear of the chess club, but I would certainly be interested in some friendly games, blitz included.

I am a beginner, but I would love to meet up and play and watch games. I am very interested in learning. And I'm thinking of buying a set, so long as they don't cost too much. Let me know and we can set up a time and place!

As soon as I get the clock(s) I contact you guys. I guess it'll be another 2 weeks from now.
Also we'd need another player for some rounds of bughouse
